BENIN CITY- The Edo State Government has been commended for its programmes which give support to women and the girl child.
Wife of the state Deputy Governor, Deaconess Endurance Odubu made the commendation at this year’s celebration of International Women’s Day in Benin City.
Deaconess Endurance Odubu explained that the government –owned Skills’ Acquisition Centre at Evbuomodu has continued to provide an alternative platform for women to earn and acquire new skills for economic empowerment.
She said assistance to widows through the provision of empowerment tools has become a yearly affair and cited free medical services for pregnant women and children under the age of five as of the state governments passion for the welfare and benefit of women.
She added that these efforts and many more are geared towards the actualization of gender equality by the Edo State government.
The representative of the ministry of women affairs and social development Mrs. Margaret Jos- Bazuaye said the ministry has always believed in partnering with groups and agencies in the collective task to uplift –the status of women.
The chairman Nigeria labour Congress Women Committee Edo State Comrade Caroline Aikoriogie thanked Governor Adams Oshiomhole for the appointment of women into political positions.
“Make it Happen Actualization of Gender Equality” is the theme of the celebration.
