BENIN CITY – Members of the Students Union Government body (SUG) of the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi Edo State have presented an award of Excellence to the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Neighbourhood Watch, Major -General Charles Omoregie (rtd), during a courtesy visit to him in Benin City.
The President, National Union of Benin Students, Hon. Otabor Orasowie stated that the award was bestowed on Major General Omoregie because he distinguished himself above all his contemporaries with his outstanding leadership qualities coupled with his selfness and humanitarian disposition toward the overall advancement of the course of youths in the state.
According to him, the award is the members way of appreciating youth development in the locality.
He commended Major –General Omoregie for helping to reduce the crime rate criminality of crime in Edo State through the Edo State Neighbourhood Watch.
By this development, he said thousands of unemployed youths roaming the streets have become gainfully employed thereby becoming more useful to themselves, their families and the society in general.
Presenting the award of Excellence for the year 2015 to Major – General Omoregie Vice President of the Students Union, Miss. Onyenwenu Ese Blessing eulogized Major General Omoregie describing him as a “blazing, ebullient and estimable personality” right from when he was serving as commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger.
She thanked him for positively touching the lives of youths through youth empowerment and sustenance of peace and stability in the nation adding that, “the youths are privileged to reckon with him.
Major General Omoregie in his remarks, expressed satisfaction over the honour done him and thanked them for having the eagle-eye in recognizing for such honour.
Omoregie said the award would spur him to do more for humanity, according to his capacity.
He used the opportunity to thank Governor, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State for giving him the platform to serve and enjoined the students to continue to be worthy ambassadors of their institution.
“They are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but also the future of today.”
Omoregie also urged them to shun all forms of violence and continue to help in maintaining peace and order so as to move the country forward.
