AS voting progressed yesterday at Ezoti Primary School in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, political thugs allegedly led by one Tony Kabaka physically attacked and assaulted the Assistant Editor of The NIGERIAN OBSERVER, Comrade TUNDE EIGBIREMOLEN while on official duty of monitoring the polls into the Edo State House of Assembly.
According to Comrade Eigbiremolen, “I was assigned to cover the elections in Benin metropolis where I also registered at Ezoti Primary School Ogbe Quarters.
According to Comrade Eigbiremolen, “at about 1.50 p.m. immediately after casting my vote, Tony Kabaka who was around the polling unit with his political thugs ordered his boys numbering about four, to manhandle me, in my election monitoring kits, saying I was an INEC staff who shouldn’t have voted. I told them I was not an INEC staff but a pressman on official duty and exercising his franchise.
“My explanation fell on deaf ears as he directed his boys to throw me out of the scene. They physically assaulted me leading to injuries on my lips”.
Comrade Eigbiremolen also said he, has incidented the matter at the Aideyan Police Station, off Airport Road, Benin City.
