BENDEL Insurance FC of Benin, weekend pipped Akwa Starlets of Akwa Ibom to emerge champions of the South-South Nigeria.
The lone goal which was well converted by the insurers attacking midfielder Peter Iyamu in the 80th minute was enough instrument to clip the wings of the resilient Akwa Starlets, securing the N1.0m star prize.
The Roland Ewere tutored Benin side also emerged winner of FIFA fair play prize, an indication of a disciplined team.
The Edo FA and Front Group organized football extravagarzer attracted 8 potential FAs representative clubs from across the South-South Nigeria including Delta, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom States.
According to the organizers Edo FA and Front Group, the football championship which will be sustained is designed to prepare and encourage football clubs from the zone ahead of Federations cup, as well as building their capacities at the same time.
Meanwhile, cheques of N1.0m and N0.5m along with medals were presented to the winners and runners up respectively. Isaac success sponsored Golden boot was also given out to the highest goal scorer of the tournament, Ayaya Emmanuel of Akwa Starlets with 5 goals.
Speaking after the match, coaches of both sides Roland Ewere and Patrick Udor expressed satisfaction with the standard of organization, and both commended the organizers and sponsors for their initiative and sued for sustenance.
