BENIN CITY-The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 5 Mr Abubakar Adamu Mohammed has directed the Commissioners of Police in Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States to ensure adequate security of lives and property before, during and after Christmas and New Year celebrations in their respective states.

The CPs are Mr Haliru Gwandu, Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim and Mr Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, in charge of Edo, Bayelsa and Delta States, respectively.

The AIG gave the directive during his maiden security meeting with the three police commissioners in his zone at the Zonal headquarters, GRA, Benin City, last Tuesday.

Mr Abubakar Adamu, last Wednesday also held a similar meeting with the tactical Commanders with a matching order to provide intervention unit and tactical Squad to complement efforts of conventional police in their commitment to stamp out all forms of criminalities within the zone.  

Among the tactical Commanders included the Special Protection Unit (SPU), Base 5 in Benin and Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Base in Warri.

The Commanders werw Police Mobile Force (PMF) 5, Benin, 30 PMF Yenogua, 31 PMF Asaba, 51 PMF Oghara, Delta State and 60 PMF Auchi, Edo State.

Cases of herdsmen Menace, kidnapping, armed robbery, economic sabotage, vandalism, cultism, communal clashes and Chieftaincy disputes were re-examined at the meeting.

The AIG who charged the officers to always respect human rights while discharging their duties however assured residents of the three states of police security.
