Asaba – Delta State Fire Service Command yesterday said it has evacuated 24 dead bodies, victims of fire incidents, rescued 176 persons alive and saved property valued over N8. trillion between May 2015 and May 2018.

Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Ernest Ogwezzy who disclosed this to journalists in Asaba said that fire incidents destroyed property estimated at N13. 237 million within the period under review.

According to him, “fire statistics from May 2015 till date shows that the state fire Service attended to 794 fire calls but 63 were false calls after all.”

Mr. Ogwezzy noted that the major incidents tackled by the Command are Anioma patrol station in Okpanam, college of Education in Warri, PPMC in Ekpan, Beta glass factory in Ughelli, Sapele main market and Asaba Aluminium company.

He said that the Command generated over N53 million to the state, even as the state emergency management Agency assisted 94 victims of fire disaster with over N8million.

“Financial assistance of about N4 million was given to 53 victims of rainstorm in Obiaruku in Ukwuani local government area of the state while a cash donation was given to a widow, Mrs. Veronica Nwaneri in Agbor, Ika local government area of the state and 60 others.
