Asaba – The Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor has said that the state was currently handling 312 rape and defilement cases, all pending at High Courts across the state.

Mr. Mrakpor also said that there 29 cases of kidnapping and 17 murder cases pending at the state High Courts.

According to the Commissioner who briefed the newsmen on Monday in Asaba about the activities of his Ministry, over 100 persons particularly the youths between the ages of 16 and 25 are a waiting trial at prisons in the State.

He said that the state created the department of Public prosecution” to ensure that victims of rape and domestic violence receive holistic free medical attention, counselling, rehabilitations and other support services while five convictions were secured in respect of sexual related cases. ”

On cultism, Attorney General said that the number of youths involving in cult activities was worrisome, revealing that most cultists come from home as their parents are cultists.

However, he said that the state received nine petitions in respect of domestic violence, aggressive or behaviour within the home, but six of it has been resolved.

Justice Commissioner said that he personally settled a Redeemed pastor whose marriage was threatening with divorce with a pot of soup.

“The couple came to me and I advised them to be more united in their marriage after which I gave them to cook and eat and after that they have been leaving happily “
