Edo state Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki in a swift reaction to the News of a student who was electrocuted by a faulty electric pole on his way back from school on Thursday 12th ,2018 has sent a high powered delegation on a condolence visit to the parents of the child as well as staff and students of Eyaen Secondary school in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the State.
The delegation headed by the commissioner for Education, Hon. Barr. Emmanuel Agbale arrived to find the parents of the child in a sorrowful mood. Sympathising with them, he said the death of the child is a big loss not only to the parents, but to the state and Nigeria as a whole. He assured them of the Governor’s sympathy and ongoing investigations of BEDC’s action and inaction in order to proffer a lasting solution to guard against a future re- occurrence. He further requested to be intimated with the burial plans for the child.
In a further move, the delegation headed to Eyaen Secondary school to sympathise with the staff and students of the school over the sad incident.
Addressing them, Barr. Agbale advised them to always look out for each other. He mentioned that Government is sad about the sad event and sympathises with them. He further assured them that they are all important and as such, Government would not want a reoccurrence.
The Education Commissioner however used the opportunity to admonish the students of the school regarding the series of unsavoury reports he had received concerning them. He warned them to desist from their unruly behaviour as any child found wanting would be seriously disciplined, while also advising the teachers to be alive to their responsibilities and imbibe good moral virtues in the students for them to be useful to themselves and the society at large.
Until his death, Benedict Pius Sanni was a JSS 3 Student of Eyaen Secondary school, Uhunmwonde and was an indigene of Kaduna State.
With the commissioner was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr Mrs Ruth Obahiagbon, The CIE of Uhunmwonde Local Government Area Mrs Iyore Ero as well as the PRO of the Ministry Mrs Nekpen Nwine
