OPOJI – Traditional rulers of Edo Central Senatorial District have lauded the governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for his development strides across Esanland.

They made the commendation after an enlarged meeting of Esan Traditional Rulers at the palace of the Onogie of Opoji, HRH Ehidiamen 1 (JP).

Addressing the media on the outcome of the meeting, the monarch of Ojoji, HRH Ehidiamen 1 said the Esan traditional rulers in unison appreciated the governor for his response to the developmental needs of Esanland.

The monarch, who is the vice chairman of Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers, specifically mentioned the ongoing working on Ewu gully, construction of roads across the senatorial district and others.

He equally revealed that the Esan traditional rulers lauded the governor for the increment in the monthly stipends traditional rulers in the state.

He alleged that the commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the last administration had shortchanged them through deduction of administrative charges.

“we appreciated the governor for his development strides so for, because in Ewu, something is happening; in Ekpoma roads are being tarred; mine, he has promised in the dry season he will do it.

“The traditional rulers also commended him for our stipends. It has improved since he came in. In the past, the commissioner which we had then, without the knowledge of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, was taking percentage and he called it administrative charge”, he said.

The traditional rulers used the opportunity to dispel the rumour of alleged invasion of England by the Fulani herdsmen, saying it was a false alarm raised in the social media.

“Those of them (traditional rulers) from areas in question said nothing like that in the area. We only know we had some problem of herdsmen in Ugboha. That was more than six months ago and the governor responded quickly with security operatives.

“Since then we’ve not had anything like that. Social media users publishing the issue of herdsmen, creating fear that herdsmen are coming to attack places in Esanland should learn to cross check from their traditional rulers or parents at home”, he said.

They reiterated the demand of the Esan traditional rulers to return the speakership of Edo State House of Assembly back to Edo Central Senatorial District, asserting that it was a proper thing to do.
