BENIN CITY – Police have commenced a three-day training on human rights for Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) operatives in Edo State to reposition the outfit for professionalism and efficient service delivery.

Over 40 personnel of the special squad in Edo State Police Command are undergoing the training which started yesterday in Benin City.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Muhammad Adamu while declaring the event opened charged the participants to ensure the training snowboard to rank and file under them.

IGP Adamu represented by of Police in charge of Training and Development CP Abiodun Odube stated that the training was targeted at improving professionalism and protection of human rights in line with international standards of modern policing.

He explained that the training was a holistic approach to enhance the performance of the officer and the foot soldiers of the Edo SARS to confront contemporary security challenges in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police in Edo CP DanMallam Muhammed, thanked the IG for approving that the officers in the command to partake in the intensive training meant to reposition them for efficiency and good relations with members of the public.

Earlier, Executive-Director of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), Dr. Uju Agomoh, said that the ongoing training in Edo was first time that the human rights training was being scaled down to the unit levels.
