BENIN CITY – Scores have been killed in a renewed cult war that engulfed parts of Edo State in the last few days.

Investigation revealed that several others wounded in the crisis are on danger list at different hospitals in the state.

The rampaging cultists dared the security agencies in the state to unleash violence on their targets during the day.

It was gathered that last Sunday night, traders around the Third Junction hurriedly closed shops following sporadic shootings by rival cult groups and policemen drafted to the area.

Contacted, the Commissioner of Police in Edo CP Danmallam Mohammed said one person was wounded in the recent cultists shootout as the victim was in a stable condition.

He added that the police repelled the cultists and said nobody was killed.

“There was shooting. The cultists came out and we repel them. We need the cooperation of the people to checkmate activities of cultists. We made some arrest in Ekpoma and two others were arrested in Bénin.

“Nobody has been killed to my knowledge but somebody was wounded and he is in stable condition.” CP DanMallam stated.

Some of the victims were allegedly killed at the Agbor park road, Isibor Junction adjacent St Saviour Road, Third East Circular junction and around M. M, Way in Benin City.

A 22-year-old boy identified as Ogbe, one Gregory Uba, Muyiwa aka Lion were said to be among the latest casualties.

Others were said to have been killed in Oliha, Upper Sonkponba road, Ogida, a popular bar at Iyobosa street opposite Edo College and 2nd East Circular road near Ekiosa by Lucky Junction, all in Benin City.
