BENIN CITY- Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has said that the State was shedding its civil service status thus becoming an industrial state where ideas and private sector involvement changed the pace of development.
The
Deputy Governor stated this when the old students association of Maria
Goretti Girls Grammar School paid him a courtesy visit in his office at
the Government House Benin.
Stating
the importance of private sector involvement in running the state’s
economy with special focus on education, Shaibu said that with the
implementation of the policy on education through the Edo Best
programme where primary school pupils got exposed to reading and
writing from primary one, knowledge transfer was on the high side. This
in turn, helped improve the quality of education in the state.
Shaibu appreciated efforts of Maria Goretti Old Girls Association as
members used their talent and personal resources to build a befitting
laboratory and perimeter fence to better the lot/protect the girl child
from the influence of the streets.
He aligned with the school’s sixtieth anniversary celebration activities, promising to be physically present. He nonetheless observed that with more private sector participation in the education sector, the state would produce skilled graduates who drove manpower, ultimately, becoming employers of labour. According to him it will in turn encourage a small but result oriented civil service which played a key role at the supervision of the State’s private sector driven economy.
The courtesy visit was led by the school’s association’s national vice president, Barr. (Mrs.)Felicia Otaigbe.
