ABUJA – Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it is taking steps to resolve issues surrounding alleged restriction of a judge from a court in Kebbi by a personnel of the corps.

Mr Abdullahi Gana, the Commandant General (CG) of the Corps gave the explanation in a statement issued by Mr Emmanuel Okeh, the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) on Monday in Abuja.

Gana said that the attention of the NSCDC has been drawn to a video being circulated on social media that a personnel of the corps prevented a judge from entering court room.

He said that the management of NSCDC was already in communication with the state command and had constituted a committee to look into the matter for appropriate action.

He said report from the command indicated that the court was currently under lock and key with personnel assigned to protect the environment from being vandalised.

“We were also informed that when the judge came to the court premises, the personnel approached her to inform her of the development.

“Unfortunately, the personnel was not given a listening ear by the judge but was rather alleged of preventing the judge from entering the court room,” Gana said.

The CG called on the public not to misconstrue the incident and give it different interpretations.

“NSCDC is a law abiding agency of government saddled with the responsibility to protect lives and property of Nigerians and so, cannot do otherwise by infringing on the rights of Nigerians.

“We will never take side, rather we will deliver quality services to all and sundry irrespective of class or creed,” he said.

Gana, however, called for calm, adding that the corps respects the sanity of every office.
