BENIN CITY – His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, says culture is a veritable tool for national unity.

Oba Ewuare II stated this when the Director-General of the National Council of Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe led the National Working committee of NAFEST and 35 Commissioners of Arts and Culture in Nigeria to the Oba Palace.

The Benin Monarch expressed satisfaction that NAFEST is upholding the rich cultural heritage of Benin Kingdom in particular and Nigerian in general.

The Omo N’Oba expressed confidence that after NAFEST in Benin City, the image of Benin Kingdom and indeed Nigeria will improve and called on well-meaning Nigerians and organisations to support NAFEST.

The Oba of Benin prayed for many good things to continue to come to Benin Kingdom, while the Oba equally pray against bad elements to go far from the Kingdom.

Earlier, the Director-General of the National Council of Art and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe informed His Royal Majesty that NAFEST would be hosted in Benin City between 19th to 26th October, 2019 and expressed joy that it coincides with the coronation and birthday anniversaries of Oba Ewuare II.

He assured the Omo N’Oba that the festival would bring empowerment to the people and showcase the rich cultural heritage of Benin people to the international community.

While commending the Oba for approving the use of Oba Akenzua II Cultural Center, Otunba Runsewe described the Omo N’Oba as a symbol of royalty and unity, and promised to partner with Oba Ewuare II Foundation to make it a huge success.

He eulogized the Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora, Hon. Osaze Osemwigie Ero for his efforts in ensuring that NAFEST was successfully hosted in Benin City. He later presented an Artwork symbolizing national unity to Oba Ewuare II.
