BENIN CITY – Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu has felicitated with the Esongba of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri, OON on his 90th birthday celebration, describing it as a landmark which comes from the Almighty God only.
In a congratulatory message to the Esongba and personally signed, the Deputy Governor eulogised the revered chief saying that: ” I’m proud to say that you are an icon of inestimable value who commands respect and adoration by virtue of your courage and capacity to comment on issues of public importance , no matter whose ox is gored”.
A statement from the Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Ebomhiana Musa quoted the Deputy Governor as telling the nonagenarian that “you have been very strong, active and agile all these years, adding that, it can only be attributed to the goodness and mercy of Most High God”.
To the renowned journalist cum politician of the Zikist era, Shaibu prayed that “…..as you age gracefully, so shall, your strength be in long life, robust heath and sound mind.” He fondly refered to him as “our great Esongban”.
Shaibu said this generation of politicians and indeed, journalists have so much to learn from the cup of wisdom of Chief Edebiri, the man popularly referred to in the Benin Kingdom as” the Oracle”.
