The Vice Chancellor, Edo University Iyamho, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor has said that the university will on Saturday graduate a total of 50 students found worthy in character and learning degrees in their various discipline.

The Vice Chancellor stated this yesterday during the news briefing as part of the activities marking the first convocation ceremony of the University.

He said that five students would be graduating with First Class Honours, 26 with second Class (upper Division) and 16 students would be for second Class Honours (lower division) while three students will earn third class Honours.

He further disclosed that the university will awarding a prize of #5 Million to the graduating students who had the best entrepreneurial business ideas.

He said that the goal set for the univeesity is that any graduating students with entrepreneurial skills that will make them not only job ready but will also empower them to be employers of labour.

According to him, the output from the university will contribute significantly through the knowledge and skills acquired to the development of Edo state in particular and Nigeria in general.

While commending the management and staff of the university for the achievement recorded so far said that staffs were carefully selected through rigorous selection process to get the best brains to work at the university adding that the high quality of staff is what is reflected in the milestones the university has achieved in its short period of existence.

Prof. Aluyor also revealed that the visitor to the university, Gov. Godwin Obaseki will install Mr. Aderemi Makanjuola, Chairman, Caverton Offshore Support Group as the first Chancellor of Edo University Iyamho.

While the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele would deliver the first convocation lecture with the Theme : The Role of Monetary Policy: Towards Economic Growth in Nigeria under the chairmanship of Prof. Adamu Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC).

On students population the VC said on inception in 2015/2016 academic session, the NUC approved the quota of 500 students for admission into the university with 76 students and today, the quota has been increased to 1,800 with 1,378 students currently on admission in the university.

The Vice Chancellor however highlighted some of the achievements of the university since inception in 2016 to include the best state university and 3rd Best university in NUC 2018 OER ranking of universities in Nigeria; the first university to own an Anatomage table; the first university to deploy CANVAS learning Management System (6 out of the 10 best Universities in the world.

He stated further that all programmes due for accreditation by NUC have been accredited with the least score of 82.5% for assessed programmes while Engineering Programmes have all been accredited by COREN.

He also disclosed that the university increased from two Faculties to six Faculties with 22 departments
