EKPOMA – The Archbishop of Bendel Province of the Anglican Communion, The Most Rev’d Friday Imaekhai has called on the people of Edo State to cooperate with the governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to move the state to greater heights in 2020.
To this end he called on major political stakeholders of All Progressive Congress (APC) to see to amicable resolution of the political crisis in the state chapter before the conduct of next gubernatorial election.
Archbishop Imaekhai made the call in his new year message in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
He similarly admonished the church leaders to denounce injustice, poverty and oppression, and commit themselves to the preaching of the authentic gospel in 2020.
“This is the message for the year 2020. The Lord promised peace to men of goodwill, so we appeal to all in our state (Edo) and Nigeria to strive for excellence.
“On this note, we call on the good people of Edo State to cooperate with the government under Governor Godwin Obaseki, so that we can jointly move Edo State to greater heights.
” We also call on the major political party stakeholders to see to it that the lingering political crisis in Edo State revolving between the incumbent governor and his predecessor is amicably resolved before the conduct of the next gubernatorial election in the state”, he stated.
He called on political leaders at all levels to unite and work towards the common good of all Nigerians by providing all the basic amenities to her citizenry.
The religious leader charged President Muhamadu Buhari to operate a structurally fair and just system where no man would be unjustly oppressed.
He similarly urged the president to avoid lopsided appointment of Muslims and Northerners of Hausa-Fulani stock as such action was capable of sending wrong signals of division.
“The clamour by ethnic nationalities to go their separate ways is predicated on, among others, the lopsided appointment in favour of Hausa-Fulani-Muslims, especially in federal appointments and security architecture of the nation to the detriment of other Nigerians with differing religious persuasions. We call on the president to redress this in order to ensure the unity of Nigeria”, he admonished.
He however, commended his administration’s unrelenting fight against the menace of the Boko Haram insurgency, and prayed God to eliminate the phenomenon of terrorism in the country.
