OKADA (OVIA NORTH-EAST) – Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has charged 924 Batch ‘C’ Stream 2, Corps members deployed to the state on National Service to their fatherland to be “Good ambassadors of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

Speaking through Commissioner for Youths, Hon. Damian Lawani, Governor Obaseki charged the Youth Corp members to be, “Actively involved in the fight against economic crimes, women and child trafficking, drug trafficking and other vices through adult and mass literacy programmes, community healthcare delivery services and other programmes put in place by the administration.”

He affirmed that, “Success of any service year is dependent on the foundation laid during the orientation exercise, hence the management of the scheme has taken steps to introduce the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training programmes, series of lectures, physical exercises and other social activities into the orientation course, all geared towards making you better Nigerians.”

Edo State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Adebayo Ojo said at the close of registration for the orientation course, a total number of 924 corp members were duly registered, comprising 481 males and 443 females.

He said by December 18, 2019, the Corps members would be posted to specific areas of critical needs for the enhancement of rural healthcare delivery, education, rural infrastructure and agricultural development in the various parts of the state for their national service.

According to him “this is aimed at partnering with the state government in these areas, towards ensuring rural development, national integration and youth empowerment.”
