PORT-HARCOURT- The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has commended the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, over his role in strengthening traditional institution in Nigeria.

Governor Wike gave the commendation while receiving Oba Ewuare II who is in Rivers State for a thank you tour.

He said that the Benin tradition and culture, no doubt, are highly respected globally, pointing out that the Oba inspite of his well exposure has continued to promote the culture and tradition of his ancestors without western interference.

The governor who said that the reign of Oba Ewuare II has brought sanity and peace to the people of Edo State, especially with the outlawed Community Development Association (CDA), tasked South-South traditional rulers to be united towards promoting traditional institution in Nigeria.

While assuring the monarch of his administration’s support and cooperation, Wike prayed God to grant the Oba good health and more wisdom, Governor Wike assured Oba Ewuare II that Rivers State Government would be part of the annual Benin Igue Festival.

Earlier, Oba Ewuare II said he was in the state on a thank you tour after his coronation, to strengthen the friendly relationship and close affinity of the people of Benin and Rivers, as well as to meet with South-South Monarchs Forum.

He noted that history has it that some of the tribes in Rivers State trace their ancestry origin to Benin.

The Oba lauded the cordial relationship that exists between the Governor of Edo State and Rivers, just as he thanked governor Wike for his hospitality and support for making his visit successful.

He thanked the governor further for providing enabling environment for Edo people in Rivers State to conduct their businesses and make connections in the development of the state.

Oba Ewuare II encouraged the people that have traced their ancestry origin to Benin to join in the celebration of Igue Festival, assuring that they will receive the blessings for doing so.
