ORHIONMWON – In a bid to curtail the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, chairman of Orhionmwon local government council in Edo state, Hon Silvester Okoro on Wednesday charged people of the area to adhere strictly to messages from health authorities.

Hon Okoro urged the rural dwellers to immediately report any suspected case to the nearest health facility, for onward designated isolation centers in the state.

Okoro, who spoke when he led a sensitization campaign team to communities in the area, stressed the need to take precautionary measures to avoid contacting the virus that is currently ravaging the world.

Addressing traders at Urhehue central market in Ugu Ward, the council chairman sensitized the people on the best way to avoid contacting the dreaded virus.

According to him, washing of hands with soap, wearing of facemask, hand gloves, use of hand sanitisers, avoiding of crowded areas and handshakes are ways to protect oneself from the pandemic.

He however distributed hand washing drums, soaps, hand sanitizers, facemasks and gloves to health centers, churches, palaces, motor parks and other public places where the sensitization train did stop over.

Also, a member of the team and coordinator of the Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in the area, Dr. Edward Iseh admonished the people not to panic as Coronavirus is not a death sentence.

Dr Iseh enjoined them to follow the precautionary measures highlighted during the sensitization, adding, some of the virus symptoms are fever, dry cough, difficulties in breathing (shortness of breath) and vigorous sneezing.

He adviced anyone experiencing such signs to immediately visit the nearest medical facility hospital.

Recall speaker of the State House of Assembly Frank Okiye tested positive for coronavirus, while Governor Godwin Obaseki was tested negative but has decided to remain in self-isolation.

Meanwhile, the State Government has issued new directives to hoteliers and transporters in the state, as it strengthens measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Some of the measures include strict seating guidelines in public buses, proper documentation of passengers by transporters and checks on recent travel history of hotel clients, as the federal government has confirmed 14 new cases of Covid-19.

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) takes the total number of confirmed cases to 65, which is the highest number of cases confirmed so far by the body in a single day.

According to NCDC in a tweet at 8.35PM; “14 new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: 2 in FCT, 12 in Lagos,”
