UK Government Denies Allegation of Corruption in Edo

Our attention has been drawn to our lead story in the Nigerian Observer of Thursday, 27 February, 2020, particularly to our headline “Siphoning of 7.5 British taxpayers’ money.” We have since discovered the error in our headline as the British Government has clarified that “there is no legitimate accusation of the theft” as our headline portrayed.

“The UK Government vehemently and categorically denies any allegation of corruption and has consistently acted as the most transparent partner in development, through our world-renowned, robust safeguards and periodic online publication of all spend and financial transactions, ” said David Smith, Head of Communications, the Department for International Development (DFID), Nigeria in a request for article redaction.
