WARRI – The Warri South Local Government Council, Chairman, Hon. Dr. Michael Tidi as part of his recognition of the role of journalists in the fight against the Coronavirus, has donated hand sanitizers and face masks to the Warri Correspondent Chapel of the NUJ.

The items which included the Personal Protective Equipment were part of his efforts to contain the virus.

While presenting the item to the Chapel’s Chairman, Comrade Okies Vicky at the Council’s Secretariat, Dr Tidi said the gesture was the Council’s little way of recognizing the dangers journalists face in their line of duty in reporting the COVID-19 pandemic in the council area.

Dr. Tidi disclosed that the only way to contain the Virus is to show support to people who are at the forefront of educating and giving their best in providing care to those with the pandemic disease, hence journalists duties in covering happening all over can’t be over emphasized as the fight against coronavirus continues.

The Warri South Council Boss commended Journalists across Delta State as well as Warri Correspondents’ Chapel for their resilience and doggedness displayed so far in reporting the COVID 19.

He charged them to always protect themselves with the preventive items and maintain social distancing, frequent hand washing with soap, use of face mask and use of hand sanitizer as well as other preventive measures.

Dr. Tidi urged the Warri Chapel to help the council in its advocacy on Corinavirus which he said the Warri south local government has been championing before an index case was recorded in the state.

Responding, the Chairman of the Warri Correspondent Chapel, Comrade Okies Vicky, who received the items on behalf the Chapel, commended the Warri South Council Chairman, for the donation assuring him of effective use of the materials.

He stressed the need for cooperation among all citizens of the state, adding that at times like this the best thing to do was to ensure that we keep ourselves safe.

Comrade Vicky urged everyone in Warri to adhere strictly to the advocacy against the spread of COVID 19 in Warri the cosmopolitan council in Delta state.
