BENIN CITY- As part of his effort to cushion the economic effect of the novel Coronavirus, otherwise known as ‘COVID-19’, the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba EWUARE II, yesterday distributed Palliative materials to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council.

Items distributed by the Oba Ewuare II Foundation to Edo NUJ include, 50 bags of Rice, 50 bags of beans, 50 cartoons of indomie noodles, hand sanitizers and face masks.

Addressing journalists on behalf of the Monarch, Chief Eduwu Ekhator Obasogie, the Obasogie of Benin said that the gesture was a further demonstration of the Oba’s unending love for humanity.

He said that the palliatives would be distributed across the seven local government areas of the state, stressing that Edo NUJ was first point of call.

Chief Obasogie who described Oba Ewuare II as a great epitome, exponent of culture and tradition acknowledged that role of journalists in the fight against COVID-19 virus.

He, however, tasked journalists not to relent in their function of sensitising the people against COVID-19 especially at this critical time of humanity.

Responding on behalf of the National President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, the Zonal Vice President, Comrade Eddy Ogude, thanked Oba Ewuare II for identifying with newsmen, and called other traditional rulers across the country to emulate the Oba’s gesture.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Union, Chairman of Edo NUJ, Comrade (Sir) Roland Osakue expressed appreciation to the Oba, maintaining that Oba Ewuare II no doubt has always been the one taking the lead in every developmental processes.

He pledged his union unflinching support to the Benin Palace, assuring that journalists in the state would continue to discharge their duties in line with ethics of the profession.
