As part of security measures to check the influx of thugs into Edo from other states to cause mayhem in the forthcoming September 19 governorship elections, the state police command said it has perfected plans to stop their entrance into the state.

The command spokesperson, ASP Chidi Nwabuzor who disclosed this on Thursday in a Radio programme, ‘Dialogue’ on KUFM Benin, maintained the command is working with sister security agencies to mop up arms from criminals.

According to him, the police was leaving no stone unturned to ensure protection of the various candidates as well as their supporters before, during and after the election.

“Adequate security measures are in place to ensure that infiltration of thugs did not come to bear in Edo state.

“The plans are there to ensure the routes.. .both the exit routes are well secured and policed, so that we will not have that ugly incident”, the Edo police imagemaker said

Nwabuzor noted the command would be carry out educational programmes to sensitize electorates in the state on certain conducts.

He reiterated the police will lead other security agencies on a show of force along major roads in Benin City, a routine exercise embarked by the operatives to prove their readiness for an election.

“Show of force is very important. It is part of the arrangements as well; we are going to carry out show of force, we are going to enlighten people, educate them on what to do and what not to do”, he said

Recall recently, the Commissioner of police, Johnson Kokumo assure electorates in the state the command is ready and prepared for a violent-free polls.
