BENIN CITY – Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, has advised the Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, to extricate himself from the apron strings of the Lagos godfather before commenting on the failed invasion of the Edo State House of Assembly.

According to Osagie, “Senator Opeyemi must stop addressing issues as a stooge or megaphone for the Lagos godfather, as Nigerians expect him to speak as a Senator of the Federal Republic, with the capacity to objectively isolate issues and place blames where they belong, no matter whose ox is gored.”

In a statement, he explained that, “Rational Nigerians who have commented on the failed political coup that happened at the Edo State House of Assembly, have condemned the coup plotters’ action with the harshest of words.”

Osagie noted that: “As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Nigerians expect Senator Opeyemi to find the voice, no matter how difficult, given his age-old allegiance to the Lagos godfather, to uphold the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, which criminalise such assault on the Edo Assembly.”

He maintained that, “an injury to one duly inaugurated legislature is an injury to all assemblies, state or federal, and we expect lawmakers like Opeyemi to know this and defend same.”

The governor’s aide however urged, “Opeyemi to be silent on national issues if speaking truth to power would pit him against the Lagos godfather, so as not to mislead members of the public with his self-serving and uninformed comments.”

He denounced “The actions of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who masterminded the failed invasion of the Edo Assembly, and urged well-meaning Nigerians and protectors of the nation’s fledgling democracy, its core values and institutions, to save the governmental system from people like Senator Opeyemi and the Lagos godfather.”
