The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has assured that his administration will continue to pursue reforms and projects to achieve economic prosperity for the state and improve the living standard of the majority of Edo people.
Governor Obaseki gave the assurance at the weekend in commemoration of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty marked every October 17 by the United Nations and its various agencies.
Obaseki vowed that despite economic disruptions arising from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, his government will not relent on sustainable projects that would guarantee better lives for the people, alleviate their sufferings and reduce poverty in all its dimensions.
He further “promised to scale up developmental projects across the state and pursue more people-centric programmes and reforms to ensure improved wellbeing for Edo people.”
According to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, “The COVID-19 pandemic is a double crisis for the world’s poorest people. In these extraordinary times, we need extraordinary efforts to fight poverty. The pandemic demands strong collective action. Governments must accelerate economic transformation by investing in a green and sustainable recovery.
“We need a new generation of social protection programmes that also cover people working in the informal economy. Joining together in common cause is the only way we will emerge safely from this pandemic.”
