…to flag-off internship scheme, capacity building initiatives

BENIN CITY – The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, will tomorrow, November 11, 2020 during the Edo Youth Summit, meet with youths drawn from the 18 local government areas of the state to deliberate on youth political participation and the role of young people in good governance and actualisation of his ‘Making Edo Great Again’ Agenda.

The Edo Youth Summit, with the theme, “Our Youth and the MEGA Agenda’ is part of events lined up for this year’s Alaghodaro Investment Summit.

The summit, in its fourth edition, will be held alongside the inauguration of Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu for a second term in office. The inauguration is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, 2020.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, in a statement, said Governor Obaseki will have a special session with young people in the state during the Youth Summit to discuss their “Roles in the M.E.G.A. Vision”

According to him, the special session tagged ‘Fire Side chat with His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki’ will feature a question and answer session where young people in the state can examine the impact of the administration’s policies and reforms in education, job creation, sports development and infrastructure, among others and chart a path to consolidating on these reforms and projects to better their lives.

He said the governor will also flag-off the Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs) Internship and Apprenticeship Scheme (Stream 4) with GIZ for about 450 youths and leatherworks program for returnees and youth living with disabilities and as well launch a book, an A-Z of job creation in the state from 2016 to 2020, titled, “How We Did It: Transforming the youth through skills, entrepreneurship and innovation.”

Osagie disclosed that all events lined up for the governor’s inauguration and the 2020 Alaghodaro will be held with provision for virtual participation in line with government’s guidelines to check the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The governor’s aide said the youth summit will be held at the New Festival Hall in Government House, Benin City with 300-seating capacity, while other youths from other parts of the state are expected to participate through virtual means.
