ROME – Veteran striker Mario Mandzukic has joined Serie A leaders AC Milan and is returning to the Italian top flight he had left in 2019.

“AC Milan is delighted to announce the signing of Mario Mandzukic,” the Rossoneri said on Tuesday on their website.

“The club and the striker have agreed on a deal until the end of the current season with an option to extend the contract for the next one.”

The 34-year-old Croatian left champions Juventus early in the 2019/2020 season after winning four straight titles and three domestic cups with the Bianconeri.

He then joined Qatari side Al Duhail until July.

Mandzukic left his home country in 2010 to play in Germany, first with Wolfsburg and then Bayern Munich where he won the UEFA Champions League in 2013.

He then moved to Atletico Madrid before the Juventus deal in 2015.

AC Milan signed French midfielder Soualiho Meite on loan from Torino last week.
