…records zero case in 72 hrs, no death in 24 days

BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has vaccinated over 10, 082 traditional, religious and political leaders across the state’s local government councils with the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, as part of efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Executive Secretary of the state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Julie Erhabor, disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Erhabor noted that the state has vaccinated over 33, 559 eligible persons in the first phase of the vaccination exercise, including 7,426 healthcare workers and 16, 051 other frontline staff.

She said Oredo LGA with 10, 876 has the highest number of persons vaccinated, followed by Egor, Ovia North East and Ikpoba-Okha with 2872, 2414 and 1796 respectively.

Urging eligible members of the public to avail themselves of the opportunity and get inoculated against the deadly virus, the Executive Secretary disclosed that the state plans to vaccinate about 40, 540 persons in the first phase of the vaccination exercise.

Meanwhile, the State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi said Edo recorded no new cases in the last 72 hours and zero deaths in 24 days, with only one active case that is being managed in the state’s isolation facilities.

Obi noted that the state has continued to record a progressive decline in active cases, case positivity and fatality rates as well as an impressive rise in recovery rate.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to totally contain the pandemic and protect residents, Obi said active case search and targeted sample collection and testing are ongoing across the state’s 18 local councils.

He disclosed that Edo has so far collected 31, 967 samples and recorded 2, 197 cases, 2123 recoveries and 73 deaths since December 01, 2020 when the state started tracking the second wave of the pandemic.
