…As Obaseki distribute 7million Textbooks To Pupil Across Edo State

BENIN CITY – Edo State Government has enrolled 860 primary schools in to the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EDOBEST) Programme since the establishment of the programme in 2018.

The Chairman of Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SBEB) Joan Osa-oviawe disclosed this during a media parley with journalists in Benin City to mark the third year anniversary of the programme.

Osa-oviawe said since the commencement of EDOBEST by Godwin Obaseki’s administration in 2018, 860 Primary Schools in the State have been enrolled in EDOBEST Programme leaving 186 yet to be enrolled in to the scheme due to the challenges of COVID 19 pandemic.

She disclosed that the governor have provided over 7 million textbooks to pupils across the 18 Local Government Area of Edo State. “Obaseki now provide textbooks, instructional materials and examination papers to pupils across Edo State since 2018.

” Out of 1,046 primary schools in the State, only 186 schools have not been enrolled in to the EDOBEST Programme of the State Government due to the challenges of COVID 19 pandemic”.

She noted that the programme is extending its reach to pupils in Special schools like the schools for the visually, hearing, speech impaired amongst other. She added that most of these pupils are talented and working with relevant authority , the system will be strengthen to bring out the best in them.

She said the focus of Governor Godwin Obaseki is to ensure that every child in Edo State have a brighter future in terms of quality education. She noted that the governor is gradually achieving his aim through the establishment of EDOBEST Programme.

“In terms of infrastructural development, the governor has constructed over 400 primary schools across the State. The quality of the construction has also improved compared to what is obtainable in time past.

“The governor is set to hire over 3,000 teachers in to the system through Edo Support Teachers To Achieve Results (EDOSTAR) programme. EDOBEST Inclusive is to capture those in Special schools as we have focused in regular schools in the last three years. Over 16,000 School Base Management Committee (SBMC) members have been trained bring communities, parents, teachers, pupils and Government under one umbrella for synergy towards addressing challenges in basic education Sector particularly funding, infrastructure and service delivery rather than waiting solely on the Government”.

The SUBEB Chairman said governor Godwin Obaseki through EDOBEST tried to build a system that can thrive on its own notwithstanding who is the governor of the State or members of the board of SUBEB.
