BENIN CITY-The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Philip Ogbadu has frowned at an online media report accusing him and the Officer-in-charge of the anti-cultism unit of the command of releasing two criminal suspects from police detention without diligent investigation and prosecution.

The report further accused the Officer-in-Charge of the anti-cultism unit of financial inducement which led to the release of the suspects.

CP Ogbadu stated this when our reporter sought his views after he conducted undercover investigation which revealed that the said two suspects were still in police custody as at last Saturday, contrary to the claim by the online publication.

“If you want to know the facts you can go to CID, is open for anybody, call the names of the suspects, they are there.

“Anybody who knows me knows that I don’t compromise, I am a straight jacket person. I do what is right, not only between me and you but between me and God because I am not only answerable to you but I am also answerable to God”. CP Ogbadu stated.

Our reporter who demanded to interface with them, gathered that the suspects Victor Osarentoe and Esosa Dauglas, 24 were apprehended at Ogueka Community in Uhunmwonde local government area of Edo State on May 8, 2021.

The two suspects said they have be in police custody since they were apprehended and taken to the state police command headquarters in Benin City.

CP Ogbadu further noted that “even the cult killing that was everywhere do you see it again?, We don’t permit it, but somebody is saying I am not policing, in fact….”

It was also learnt that a barrel gun was recovered in Victor Osarentoe’s residence while Eseosa Dauglas an alleged armed robbery suspect was also arrested during the raid in the same residence by operatives of the anti-cultism unit.

Victor Osarentoe who identified himself further as the Okaighele of Ogueka village said the gun belonged to the vigilant group of his community as he did not know that Eseosa Dauglas was an armed robbery suspect.

Eseosa Dauglas however confessed to have robbed a man of his vehicle in Upper Sokponba some months ago.

Eseosa identified two other residents of the community Osaigbovo Fred, 32 and Osarumwense Osaretin, 42 arrested on May 13, 2021 as his cult and robbery gang members.

The duo denied membership of armed robbery gang but admitted being in the same cult group with Eseosa Dauglas.

It was however gathered that the arrangement is being perfected to arraign the suspects.

Our reporter who wanted to visit Ogueka village along Benin-Auchi road was informed by the Odionwere Elder Samson Egbon that some persons have launched aggression on part of his neighbourhood.
