EKPOMA – The Bishop of Esan Diocese, Anglican Communion, The Rt. Rev’d Gabriel Elabor has added his voice to numerous calls on the Government of Nigeria to put a halt to incessant borrowing, in order not to jeopardize the futures of the unborn children of the country.

Bishop of Esan Diocese, Anglican Communion, The Rt. Rev’d Gabriel Elabor and his wife Dr. (Mrs) Chidalu Elabor at the First Session of the Seventh Synod of Esan Diocese, which had as theme: ” Have you seen this Oh Mortal”, held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Idumebo-Ekpoma, Edo State.

Bishop Elabor also charged those running the federal government to stop what he described as abuse of Federal Character Policy on appointment in the country.

He was speaking while delivering the Bishop’s Charge at First Session of the Seventh Synod of Esan Diocese, Anglican Communion, which had as theme: ” Have you seen this O Mortal”, held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Idumebo-Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to him, uncontrolled borrowing from foreign nations had the potentials of selling the country into slavery, pointing out that Nigerians were perplexed by the figures that federal government of Nigeria was borrowing to respond to Covid-19.

“We specially request that President Muhammad Buhari should henceforth repent form his borrowing culture and put Nigeria in the direction he promised during his campaign. The idea of borrowing and owing debts for generation unborn cannot continue”, he appealed.

On the alleged abuse of the Federal Character Policy, the religious leader noted that the perceived lopsided federal appointments does not help efforts to engender unity of the country.

“Every tribe and state in the Nigeria has credible and well educated citizens who can occupy any office in this country, the presidency inclusive. We make bold to say that government should do the needful by distributing the appointment equitably to avoid further disunity being created by the current situation”, he charged.

He also called on the government to address the worsening security situation in the country, just as he charged it to genuinely tackle corruption and implement workable policies that would reduce poverty in the country.
