BENIN CITY – In bid to improve access to quality family planning and maternal health in Edo State, the Rotary Action Group for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health yesterday donated medical equipment to ten selected health facilities in Edo State.

The donation was presented by Rotarian Andy Oiboh, the Edo State representative of the group on behalf of the National Co-ordinator, Prof, Emmanuel Adedolapo Lufadeju to the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Irowa Osanwonyi who received the donation on behalf of the Edo State Government in Benin City.

Rotorian Oiboh stated that family planning equipment worth 20 million naira is being donated to ten health facilities by the group in each of the 36 States and the FCT and he was glad to present the donation to the people of Edo State.

According to Rotarian Andy Oiboh “Our goal as Rotary Reproductive Maternal and Child Health (RMCH) is to work assiduously to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity in Nigeria substantially. We hope that the equipment will be used judiciously and effectively for the overall interest of maternal health and childbirth in state”

Receiving the donation on behalf of Edo State Government, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Irowa Osanwonyi expressed gratitude to the group for the donation and promised that the State government through the Primary Health Agency will ensure that the equipment are used judiciously.

“This is not the first time we are receiving donations from Rotary International. Edo State has benefitted from your generous donations over the years and we appreciate your kind gestures that have helped enormously in the area of health. On behalf of Edo State Government and the people of the state, I want to say thank you and we promise to optimize the use of the equipment”. Dr. Osanwonyi remarked.

The ten centres that benefitted from the donation are: Enwam PHC Akoko Edo, Evbuogida PHC Egor, Oko PHC Oredo, Evbanogbon PHC Ovia South West, Okada PHC Ovia North East, Comprehensive Okugbe PHC Etsako East , Okpeba PHC Jattu Etsako West, , Eldenu PHC Esan Central,Uhomora PHC, Owan West and Ugbekum PHC, Ikpoba-Okha local government areas respectively.

The representatives from the various hospitals were also in attendance to receive the equipment on behalf of the health centres.
