Warri – The Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, HRM Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II on Friday, 17, September, 2012 escaped by the whisker as the traditional ruler along with his convoy were almost attacked by cultists during their visit to Otulu Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.

The Obi who is a brother to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala , former Nigeria’s Minister of Finance , in company of members of the Council of Ogwashi-Uku had visited Otulu community in Ogwashi-Uku where they met with members of the community for discussions.

The visit was largely successful as the Obi met members of the community, prayed with them and discussed with them about community issues.

After a fruitful meeting, the Obi prayed for the community and departed with his convoy.

This was contained in a statement from the palace of the Obi signed by Prince Greg Okwumbu,
Spokesperson to the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku and made available to the Nigerian Observer.

The statement further alleged that the failed attack was carried out by cultists who were imported to Otulu.

” At the end of the visit and when the Obi was departing, cultists and thugs imported into Otulu who was aware of the visit attacked members of the entourage who were at the rear of the convoy.

“The thugs also attempted to forcefully seize a gun belonging to a law enforcement member who escorted the Obi on the visit.

“It is important to note that members of the press accompanied the Obi on the visit.

“Also law enforcement agents from the Office of the Area Commander and the Brigade Command in Asaba were also there at the visit and witnessed everything that happened.

“The people who sponsored the thugs are known to us and will be brought to Justice”, the statement said.
