BENIN CITY – The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) said that it has well over 300,000 electricity transformers in in its area of coverage.

He was responding to a querry on the non-metering of some electricity consumers in Benin City.

He said that metering of houses take into cognisance the Distribution and Transformers Transmission Capacity of some locations in the franchise states of Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti.

“So, we need to chose some transformers and do it (metering) systematically.”

He said that the mertres are not enough to satisfy all its customers, but overtime it’s going to have enough to satisfy every customer, adding that, “We ourselves, we think it’s better for all customers to be metered and we are working towards that.”

According to him, 90,000 metres were allocated to BEDC out of the one million meant for all electricity distribution companies in Nigeria; received 75,000 so far, out of which 54,000 have been installed across the franchise states.

Nothing that the 44,000 allocated to Edo is the highest allocation among the franchise states, but it is still not enough.

He said the distribution company is aware that it can’t go round its customers, but it is been distributed evenly to ensure all its customers are giving a sense of belonging.
