LAGOS – No fewer than seven people were reportedly lost their lives on Wednesday evening at Flour Mill Estate Magbon, Badagry, Lagos State when a storey building said to be under construction suddenly caved in.

Also, five people who are said to be among the workers in the building under construction were rescued alive with minor injuries, while several others were said to have been trapped inside the rubbles.

The number of casualties had yet to be ascertained as of the time of this report but sources said about seven persons were feared dead while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The collapse Wednesday evening of the one storey building is coming barely three weeks after a 21 storey building under construction at Gerald Road Ikoyi collapsed killing about 38 persons including the developer.

The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mrs. Margret Adeseye, who confirmed the tragedy said that immediately the distress call was received, officials of the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, Badagry station, rushed to the scene; adding, “There has been reported case of a storey building collapse at Sunny Filled, Flour Mill Estate, Magbon in Badagry, Lagos”.

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Badagry had rescued 5 victims from the building that is under construction while efforts are ongoing to rescue remaining trapped victims”, she added.
