ABUDU – Residents of Abudu, administrative headquarters of Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state have expressed appreciation to members of Abudu in Diaspora Group for the installation of 250 solar streetlights in the community.

According to the residents, the solar street lighting is a delight to them as it would enhance night life and boost socioeconomic activities in the community, which has been without power for more than four years.

The Odionwere (Head) of the community, Pa Mathew Ehioghae commended the group for the project, saying, “they are on the right part”.

Also, a trader who could not hide her excitement maintained that the streetlights enable her stay long hours at her shop (adjacent Court road junction) where she sells fried yam, fried fish and beancake (akara) at night.

The widow who do not want her name mentioned in print added, “i pray that God will bless them; because this light is shining in my shade, and it’s helping me sell well”.

A resident, Victor Agada however enjoined the donors to ensure the solar streetlights are maintained regularly to stand the test time.

The diaspora group is a nonprofit and apolitical association of Abudu indigenes residing in different parts of the world, with the aim to give back to their community.
