ABUDU – Parents of a baby delivered on 1st January 2022 at Abudu, administrative headquarters of Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state has appealed for recognition as “first baby of the year” 2022 in the state.

The parents, who hails from Etinan local government area of Akwa Ibom State told The Nigerian OBSERVER on Wednesday at Abudu that the baby, male, Bonny Okon was delivered at about “12.O’clock on new year day” at a maternity home in the area.

According to the father, Mr Anthony Okon, the coming of the baby brought joy to the family and the entire neighborhood that was already in the new year’s celebration mood.

“We no fit happy, especially when the baby come be boy. We happy well well for my area. Na baby of the year; and if to say na hospital my wife deliver, i believe say na once the news go enter everywhere.

“E never too late for government to recognize my baby, and give am him benefit as a baby of the year”, an excited 43years old farmer and father of 3 said in a chat with our correspondent

Recall wife of Edo state governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki presented gift items to management of hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) across the 18 local government areas for onward distribution to first babies of the year 2021.

Mrs Obaseki presented the items through the wives the local government chairmen.
