Orhionmwon – Following incessant attacks by armed herdsmen in parts of Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state, the House of Representatives on Wednesday called on security agents to beef up security in the area.

The call was made on the floor by speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila after the house passed a resolution after considering a motion on the matter.

According to the Hon. Gbajabiamila, Ologbo-Nugu, Umoghun-Nokhua, Orogho, Urhehue, Evboesi and Evbonogbon communities of the State have been under frequent invasions by the marauding herdsmen.

“The House of Representatives calls on the NigerianArmy, the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Service (DSS), and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to beef up security operations in which have been under alleged frequent invasions by armed herdsmen.

“The House of Representatives has just passed this resolution after considering a motion on the matter”, a tweet via verified twitter account to the green chamber read

In a related development, motorists plying the Ugo-Evboesi-Abraka section of the Benin-Abraka road have appealed to the state government for logistics support for vigilante groups around the Ugo-Evboesi axis of the road.

The motorists who spoke with The Nigerian Observer in the area maintained that the presence of vigilantes on the road has boost their confidence, hence they should be empowered to effectively compliment the police.

“Government need to empower those men (vigilantes), because dem dey try. The day i dey for night around after 10, i see dem fear say i don jam herdsmen; i no fit go back.

“I don park my motor before i know say dem be vigilante. Inside the bush for night, only dem. Abeg help us let dem know. If no be dem herdsmen for don pursue people comot from all this place”, a motorist, Benjamin Ebiyemi appealed in pigin English to the relevant authorities
