AKWANGA (NASARAWA STATE) – A Cleric, Rev. Fr. Peter Semenlinso, has called on Nigerians to be security conscious in their places of worship in order to save their lives.
Semenlinso, the Reverend Father in charge of St Patrick Catholic Church, Akwanga, Nasarawa State, made the call at a meeting with church officials and other stakeholders in Akwanga.
He said the call became imperative in view of the security challenges facing the state and some parts of the country.
“As a priest, my role is to preach peace, unity and to advise my faithful and other Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation for the benefit of all.
“No nation or society can develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion.
“The security challenges facing our state and some parts of the country have negatively affected our lives and the socio-economic development of the country.
“I call on you, other Christians and Nigerians at large, to be security conscious.
“For the country to resolve the lingering insecurity, security issues should not be left in the hands of the government and the security agencies alone.
“Security is everybody’s responsibility and we must be vigilant and security conscious at all times,” he said.
Semenlinso also called on Christians to report any suspicious package near church premises and other places to the security agencies for appropriate action.
He reminded Nigerians that God, who created human beings, did not make a mistake.
Semenlinso said God created all to show love, unity, peace and to tolerate one another irrespective of their background.
The parish priest also commended well-spirited Nigerians for showing love to the less-privileged and for contributing to the development of the country.
He urged them not to relent in their efforts at combating poverty in the society.
