Ferguson Oluigbo, President Professional Taekwondo Coaches’ Association on Friday urged school authorities to ensure that only certified coaches would train upcoming talents.Oluigbo told newsmen in Lagos that the aim was to make sure that budding talents would have strong foundation.
“It is very important for upcoming talents in our schools to be guided according to the core values of taekwondo sport which has styles and techniques.
“The knowledge of these ethics can only be imparted to budding talents by seasoned coaches, who will in return help in developing their skills.’’ he said.
He advised coaches to update their knowledge and qualifications to be able to be patronised by schools.
“ A lot of coaches are out there, but school authorities must be careful in granting permission to any coach to train their pupils in the sport.’’ he said.
Oluigbo said that taekwondo, being a martial art, had standard rules, which athletes must apply during contests to avoid penalties or disqualification.
