LAGOS – A Federal High Court in Lagos, has ordered the remand at the Ikoyi Prisons, a businessman, Joseph Amaechi, charged with drug peddling.
The accused, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a one-court charge of drug peddling.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Justice Mohammed Yunusa ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody, pending the determination of his bail application, moved by his counsel, Mr Victor Abana.
Yunusa adjourned the case till December 29 for ruling on the bail application.
Earlier the prosecutor, Mr Lambert Nor, had told the court that the accused was apprehended on October 29 at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja by officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He said during the inward clearance of passengers onboard a Royal Air Maroc flight from Brazil, about 845 grammes of cocaine was recovered from the luggage of the accused.
He said the offence contravened Section 11 (a) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The offence of drug trafficking could attract life imprisonment if convicted.
