Mr Adekunle Oyinloye, the Managing Director, Infrastructure Bank, has called for the re-introduction of the boarding system in the nation’s secondary schools to improve the standard of education.
Oyinloye made the call on Friday in Omu-Aran during the commissioning of hostel facilities worth N35 million and donated to the Omu-Aran High School.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 120-capacity hostel facility was donated by the Merit Club of Omu-Aran.
Oyinloye said the collapse of the boarding system, especially in public schools, had been responsible for the low standard of education being witnessed in the country.
‘The availability of boarding facilities in the schools will assist in no small measure to instill discipline in the students and curb anti-social vices,’’ he said.
Oyinloye, who is also the club’s President, said the need to raise the standard of education and improve students’ overall performance informed the donation of the hostel facility.
He said the club would also assist the school with boreholes to solve the problem associated with scarcity of water.
“The intention is to start with Omu-Aran High School as a model in our efforts to raise the standard of education among the seven secondary schools in our community, through a standard and modern boarding system.
“Without mincing words, one of the factors which have helped to entrench the high level of education some decades back was the boarding system.
“We are optimistic that with the re-introduction of the boarding facility in most of the schools nationwide, the desired standard in the education sector will be achieved,” Oyinloye said.
While speaking, the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Charles Ibitoye, expressed his appreciation and that of the people of the community to the association, urging other clubs to emulate the gesture.
Chief Peter Oyinloye, the President of Omu-Aran Development Association, thanked the association for its foresight, saying the gesture would go a long in enhancing students’ performance.
Bishop David Oyedepo, the President of the Living Faith Church, prayed for peaceful co-existence and harmonious living among the people of the community.
