MINNA – The Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umaru Bahago, yesterday  commended the Federal Government for citing the 700 megawatts hydro power project in Zungeru area of Niger.
Bahago made the commendation during a courtesy visit to his palace by Alhaji Isah Jibrin, the Chairman of the Community Relations Committee of the Zungeru Hydro-electric project.
He pledged to ensure the smooth realisation of the project and appealed to the community to give the contractor maximum support.
Earlier, the chairman of the committee said the visit was to brief the Emir on the progress of work as directed by the Federal Ministry of Power.
Also speaking, Mr. Abiy Getahum, the Project Coordinator, said not much progress had been made in the execution of the project due to non payment of compensation to the people affected.
Jibrin appealed to the Emir to intervene on the issue to enable work on the project move forward.
The project coordinator said that 200 Chinese staff and 1, 200 local workers are currently on site.
It could be recalled that the Zungeru power project, which was inaugurated on September. 27, 2013, is expected to be completed within five years.
