BENIN CITY – The Edo State Head of Service, Mr. Igbaekemen Jerry Obazele has charged Engineers and Technicians in the civil service to assist the state government in ITS developmental strides by deploying their experts in their duties.
Mr. Jerry Obazele told them that their role in the civil service was so strategic that the government in recognition of this has embarked on their training and re-training among the civil servants.
The Head of Service stated that the organization of the   seminar is to acquaint the Engineers and Technicians with the relevant civil service rules and regulations guiding the conduct of officers in public service.
The theme of the training programme was “Civil Service Rules and Regulations as they affect the conduct of Public Officers.”
He was represented on the occasion by the Director, Training and Management Services, Mr. Mohammed Ikhelowa who regretted that most officers, especially those in the engineering and technical categories are seemingly unaware of the relevant rules and regulations which guide their conduct as public officers.
According to him, it has become a norm for some officers to behave as if there are no rules and regulations guiding their conduct as most officers have imbibed habits which run contrary to the extent rules and regulations.
Mr. Obazele observed negation which included lateness, absenteeism, laxity and lack of dedication and therefore urged the participants to take advantage of the seminar to turn around the negative norms.
He reminded the participants of the hallmarks of the public service such as punctuality, honesty, and integrity, saying that the civil service is anchored on these time tested attitude.
The Head of Service maintained that there is no gain saying the fact that the only way the public service could meet the aspiration of the general public is for officers to discharge their duties in line with the relevant rules and regulations.
Mr. Obazele expressed his appreciation to Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for his unwavering commitment in the training and re-training of all categories of staff in Edo State Public Service.
