Former Super Eagles defender Celestine Babayaro has urged the national under-23 male team coach, Samson Siasia, to ensure only the best players were selected for the 2015 All-Africa Games Qualifiers.
Reports state that the team, also known as Dream Team VI, will play against Gabon in their opening round qualifier in February.
“If he (Siasia) is to select the best players to represent the country at this level, he must be strict and fair as the team enters the last phase of preparations for the qualifiers.
“He must select the best players who can represent us at that level without being biased, and he must shun favoritism.
“It doesn’t matter where a player is from, but it should be about what such a player can do,’’ Babayaro, who was a member of Dream Team I, said.
The former Chelsea FC full back, whose Dream Team I side that won the country and Africa’s first Olympic football gold medal, urged Siasia not to underrate the Gabonese.
“This is because the Gabonese are a good side,’’ he said.
Newsmen reports that Dream Team VI is currently training in Abuja.
They have some friendly games lined up for them before embarking on the All-Africa Games qualifiers.
The 2015 All-Africa Games, which is 11th edition, will hold in Brazzaville, Congo in August.
