Alessio Cerci has joined AC Milan on loan from Atletico Madrid, the Serie A club have confirmed.
Diego Simeone’s desire to bring Fernando Torres back to the Vicente Calderon, where the Spanish striker was struggling to find form after leaving Chelsea on loan at the start of the season, fuelled speculation that Cerci might return to Serie A in a player switch.
Like Torres at San Siro, Cerci failed to impress in his fleeting appearances in Rojiblancos colours this season after impressing with Torino in 2013-14.
As a result, rumours suggested he was keen to return to Italy in the January transfer window and the reports gathered pace when Torres’ move from Stamford Bridge to Milan was made permanent, meaning the club were able to send him out the striker on loan.
And the Rossoneri confirmed via Twitter on Monday that Cerci had put pen to paper on a loan move until at least the end of the season, although there are unconfirmed reports the deal will last 18 months.
Cerci spent two years with Torino until the end of last season, having come through Roma’s youth system before leaving for Fiorentina in 2012.
