BENIN CITY – Ahead of the forthcoming general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, has held a sensitization meeting with stakeholders of the various political parties in the locality for the purpose of conducting peaceful elections.
The Electoral Officer in charge of Ikpoba Okha, Mrs. Isoken Tongo, while declaring the meeting open stressed that it had become very imperative to charge all stakeholders of the various political parties on the need to conduct violence free and credible polls through concerted efforts.
Speaking with The NIGERIAN OBSERVER, she posited that the meeting was to educate all stakeholders, their agents, and privies on how to conduct themselves, before, during and after the elections in order to make it violence free, fair and credible.
She noted that previous election in the state had been characterized by various forms of malpractices, ranging from election and post-election violences, thuggery and stuffing of ballot boxes duly perpetrated by desperate politicians without recourse to the enabling law.
According to her, it is important for people especially contestants to know how elections are conducted in their various localities through commitments.
