DAMATURU – Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe has commended the Army and other security agencies for salvaging the state that came under insurgents’ attacks recently.
It will be recalled that Damaturu, Potiskum, Damagum and Geidam were attacked by the Boko Haram sect members with the intention of taking over the four towns.
Gaidam made the commendation in Damaturu while launching the 2015 Emblem Appeal Week.
“There is no better time to appreciate the Nigerian army and other security agencies in the state than now considering their efforts in salvaging Damaturu, Potiskum, Damagum and Geidam from the hands of insurgents,” he said.
The governor assured that his administration would continue to accord priority to their needs and urged them to sustain the tempo.
He said that the assistance of N1 million often presented to the families of those killed in active service would be sustained.
He also said that government would continue to foot the medical bills of those injured while in active service.
The governor announced a donation of N5 million to the state chapter of the Nigeria Legion, while the State House of Assembly pledged N1 million.
Responding, Col. Usman Yusuf, Commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade, Damaturu, thanked the governor for his sustained assistance to the Nigerian Army.
Yusuf assured that they would continue to work assiduously to protect the people and the territorial integrity of the country.
