LAGOS – Rep. Olayemi Busari has cautioned politicians in the country against the use of provocative and inciting statements during campaigns.
Busari (Accord Party-Oyo) told newsmen in Lagos that the essence of campaign was for contestants to present to the electorate what they would do for them.
The lawmaker said that campaigns should be based on issues not on personalities, adding that politicians should not use abusive languages on one another during campaigns.
He urged all political parties contesting for one post or the other in the country to ensure that peace prevail to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.
“My candid advice to my fellow politicians is that we should avoid thuggery, violence and instead embark on issue-based campaigns.
“We should avoid provocative statements and unwarranted attacks during campaigns because this can mar elective processes.
“I believe this is the way forward for our politics, so that Nigerians will know what the politicians have for them,’’ he said.
Busari urged security agents to do everything within their power to ensure security of lives and property before, during and after the elections.
He also decried the destruction of bill boards and posters of candidates by some opponents, saying that such acts were not good for the nation’s democracy.
Busari called on eligible voters in the state who have not collected their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to do so.
He urged the electorate to vote for Accord Party for positive change in the state.
“A vote for the AP and all its candidates will bring positive things for the people of Oyo State,’’ he said.
